বাংলাদেশ শব্দটি প্রথম কে ব্যবহার করেন, কিভাবে এই নামের সৃষ্টি ?

যেখানে "বাংলা" শব্দের উৎপত্তি হয়েছে সংস্কৃত শব্দ "বঙ্গ" থেকে। আর্যরা "বঙ্গ" বলে এই অঞ্চলকে অভিহিত করতো বলে ইতিহাস থেকে জানা যায়। তবে বঙ্গে বসবাসকারী মুসলমানরা এই "বঙ্গ" শব্দটির সঙ্গে ফার্সি "আল" প্রত্যয় যোগ করে। এতে নাম দাঁড়ায় "বাঙাল" বা "বাঙ্গালাহ্"। "আল" বলতে জমির বিভক্তি বা নদীর ওপর বাঁধ দেয়াকে বোঝাতো। ইতিহাসবিদ আবুল ফজলের উদ্ধৃতি দিয়ে সৈয়দ আনোয়ার হোসেন বলেন, "মুসলমান শাসনামলে বিশেষ করে ১৩৩৬ থেকে ১৫৭৬ সাল পর্যন্ত সুলতানি আমলে এবং ১৫৭৬ সালে মোঘলরা বাংলা দখল করার পরে এই অঞ্চলটি বাঙাল বা বাঙালাহ নামেই পরিচিতি পায়।" তবে বাংলা, বাঙাল বা দেশ - এই তিনটি শব্দই ফার্সি ভাষা থেকে এসেছে। কোনটিই বাংলা শব্দ নয়। এরপর বিভিন্ন সময়ে বিভিন্ন রাজারা দখলদারিত্বের সময় এই বাংলাকে বিভিন্ন নাম দেন। শেষ স্বাধীন নবাব সিরাজুদ্দৌলাও বাংলা, বিহার, উড়িষ্যা, আসামের মতো কয়েকটি প্রেসিডেন্সি নিয়ে নাম দিয়েছিলেন "বঙ্গ"। ব্রিটিশ শাসনামলে এই অঞ্চলের নাম হয় বেঙ্গল প্রেসিডেন্সি।...
